We had a great couple of days in Mackay with Ruth and Micky. It was good to have a few issues fixed on our camper-trailer (thanks Micky!), and to top it up, having freshly caught mudcrabs before tea. What a feast!
We went through miles of sugarcane fields on our way to yet other NPs. The scenery changed from cultivated fields to lush forests, arid and deserted countryside and to the volcanic region of Undara.
We enjoyed staying at the Finch Hatton Gorge Platypus bush camp, “woodstock”-style operated. We did a few nice walks in the area but as it was cold again, we had to give a miss to beautiful swimming in waterholes.
The stretch to Undara felt a bit lonesome as we crossed vast nearly-inhabited plains making us realise once again how big this country is!
